mono print preview

Check out this video on mono printing to have a taste of what our next project will be like.

Positive/ Negative continued

Kids are finishing up the background today! Complete by gluing strips of paper side by side so no background paper shows.

Finally the last step: Gluing the positive design to the negative background. We have some really awesome results!

Happy Holidays to everyone we will begin MONO PRINTING when we return. If you have not passed your safety test, STUDY and pass before the next project begins for permission to use the print lab!

Positive and Negative Space Design Project

Positive and Negative Space Design Project

Students have been working on a new project to get prepared for their first printmaking lesson when we return from winter break. We are working on understanding positive and negative space as well as learning how to use an xacto knife safely and properly. So far so good!

Step one:
Cut magazine strips and glue them side by side filling the entire paper for the background or negative space of the project.

After drawing a creative design, we used Xacto knives to cut out the negative areas of our designs leaving us with some awesome positive space designs.

 Students were focused!

  Xacto Safety!!!
 Great work!

So far the projects are looking great. Next post will be the last few steps and finished results!

New Classroom, New Ideas and New Projects!

We recently had a few changes go on at our school. We are happy to welcome the new Visual Arts teacher Julia Beliles to Landmark Middle School. She has taken over my old classroom and is teaching 2d and 3d art. I have been given he new position teaching Digital Art and Design and will be a main focus on Printmaking! We are in the old Graphics classroom and will be using all sorts of new and exciting equipment. The classroom is coming along as I get myself organized and order materials needed to create new exciting projects.

The students are being patient in the mean time, working on some 2d projects until we can get up and running. Our first OBJECTIVE was for the students to understand and memorize the Lab Safety rules. We created lab safety posters as a means of learning good design and composition.

The poster were instructed to be designed using BOLD words, simple images and simple colors. Make the poster easy to read and understand. The best poster for each rules will be used and hung up in the classroom.
Here are some of the winners!
